November 2010 Report

25TH OF NOVEMBER 2010

Good morning, afternoon and evening to everyone reading. I know I didn't do one for the previous months but, today I decided that I would start the monthly reports that myself and the staff compile. The reports will consist of all changes on the site, anything we feel needs to be said publicly, and what we will hope to achieve in the next month.

The way it will work is that I will post a thread, like here, which will be then edited by myself when others post below. So, post questions you have about changes we've done or that are approaching, and Staff members please add your input, such as suggestions for the site and your comments on the changes. This method of a month-report is tried and tested to work well, so hopefully we can pull it off and make it a feature here.

Okay, first things first, as this is our first report I'd like to welcome everyone who joined since we started! Thanks for taking part so quickly, even if you haven't read the books or seen the film.

R O L E P L A Y I N G
Remnants - we need more company-A and B soldiers, as well as guards, but they aren't really needed right now. Concerning the HT - I am going to hold a bio-competition for the position of High Tyto, judged by myself and the other two staff members. We will not judge on skill of writing (though it might help) or who can write the most, instead on the character. High tyto is important to the roleplay, even more so than the King of the Guardians in some cases, so we can't just give it away. Competition will be placed in the Port to Starboard cat in the appropriate board, so watch out!

(Auditioning for a character means you post their bio on the auditions page, not in the 'create a character' category! You may post WIPS, but make sure to finish it properly, I will ask Ruby to edit in the word 'accepted' if the bio is good enough for the competition and to be in with a chance of winning.)

As a reminder, the two Captains we have currently are Hedyn of Company-A, and Brutus of Company-B.

Guardians - Currently, we are in need of Trainees for all Chaws as an overall vacancy. We really encourage you make Trainees over full-guardians as we have a few of those now.

As for Ryb vacancies, we have two teacher ones. Although we have a co-ryb, we have no proper teacher for Ga'hoology, and no teacher for Battle. Co-rybs are usually accepted, but please do take our requests into consideration first . Students for all of these chaws are required. (also note, there are more female rybs than male rybs, so if you do request a ryb for each of these chaws, please make him male if you can xD) If Aurelius does not return by the end of the month, Tracking ryb will also be available.

The rybs we have currently are: Arctus - Colliering, Pyry - Navigation, Elhana - Weather Interpretation, Leonidas - Search+rescue.

We also have a co-ryb, Kall, for Ga'hoology. Notice how I have four high positions (1 captain, 2 rybs and a co-ryb), but don't worry - Leonidas is set to either be killed or forced to retire by injury in the plot formed by Castaway, depending on how generous I'm feeling for Leo. Her character, Masq, will soon be Co-ryb of search and rescue, so that position is taken.

Free-fliers - We haven't mentioned much about this group of birds as we wanted to wait until we had a decent amount of RE and GU owls. Soon enough, we will start to advertise the need for these birds, and some people may need them in their plots. A future plot will need Rogue Smiths, owls who make regalia in small forges of their own for passing owls to buy. The Remnants are in need of more smiths for their forgeries, so they will begin to hunt for smiths and it will be up to the Guardians to get them out. Both sides rely on Slipgizzles - free-flying birds who have bits of information for either sides, as they usually have no alliance.

I am aware one or two free-fliers have been made and it is perfectly acceptable, its just we haven't really pushed the idea so far. When the Remnants VS Guardians main-plot becomes more apparent, the need for Rogue smiths and Slipgizzles will be more necessary, so listen out for requests.

And yes, it is true - soon there will be a separate application form and sub-board to post non-owl characters, such as puffins and magpies, etc. Because they are less important than owls on our forum, they won't add to your roster of characters and such and won't appear on the main allegiances, but you can roleplay them anywhere. You are allowed two of these characters, with a new one costing just as much as it does to buy a new owl.

Example birds - magpies, puffins, ravens, crows, seagulls. They count as free-fliers as they will not be allowed to have an allegiance to the Remnants OR Guardians.

S I T E - S T U F F
Now that the roleplaying affairs are sorted, lets get onto sitely stuff! Firstly, everyone will have noticed small changes happening here and there, and I don't think anyone could be bothered to sit here and remember all of what I've done or changed. The overall layout of the site is still in consideration, as we'd really like it to look nice. We are always checking out codes and other bits that would make it look nicer or more orderly. If you have any ideas as to how to make the site look better, make sure to bring it up in your post below!

Expect a Christmas skin soon everyone! Hopefully myself and Myth will be able to make a good one that everyone enjoys before the 10th or so of December if we can manage . There will also be festivities going on in the OOC department, so if you have any game ideas please do post them here or start them off in the OOC category!

I don't want to drag on any more than I have already, so instead I'll summarise this whole report, and then list all of the features I am working on.

• Milkberry festival to happen over Christmas time where the owls celebrate, the fruit from the tree is picked and stored before winter. All owls partake in the harvesting of milkberries and the caring of the tree.
  
• When we have about 20 members, Guardians vs Remnants plot will really start to kick off, possible war.
  
• Eagles, vultures, etc allowed as free-fliers as well as previously mentioned birds (will make an example list)

Okay joking aside. I'm thinking about making Acceptance cookie images just because it sounds fun.

I like the idea of a contest and I am looking forward to being a judge, (which fits my role as the Goddess of Acceptance and Rejection) and I promise to judge fairly and not on something as stupid as spelling or grammar, completely (grammar is a major factor in getting roleplay across afterall). We all have our fail moments so I will take that into consideration.

Also I plan on taking on a raven so Myth/Fin be prepared to have to take over my job for one XD

If I come up with any ideas I'll let you know in a PM Fin.

Short and sweet myth, short and sweet Cool - i've got some real good shots if you ever need them, very HD ones and good for the top image. Is there any way you and your skills can get the site a little thinner? I was on a different computer today and its all... very wide and spastic.

Sounds good ruby - the competition will be quite soon, if we get one or two more members. We will judge it on a number of things, with spelling, grammar and skill important as we need someone good to play him, but more importantly they have to make a character who is different and suits it perfectly.

Remember the high tyto will ALREADY HAVE AN HEIR - terfro's character.

Agreed, myth. They are important characters (though not as much as HT of course) if more than one person wants either GA'HOOLOGY or the BATTLE rybs, then post here saying you want it. If more than one person replies, then the two will have to make a bio each and will be judged just like the HT competition. On the first of December, if Aure hasn't returned, then I'm afraid I will also have to put the TRACKING ryb up for grabs.

Also I was thinking, for games we'll have for christmas, the prizes should be flecks?

Yes, most definately Flecks. Their popular for buying items in the shop. xD So definate yes. And I was thinking, for the high Tyto, why not have Aqua's brother Talon the one? I don't know, but I was suggesting. If not, well whatever xD. I can't wait for the new skin. I wish I could help, but graphics aren't my thing.

I wanted to put this out there: the player Coolcatwow170 might be interested in one of the Rybs. She is already making a character soon. Muah.

Thanks, cast. We'd like to audition everyone interested for the role of High tyto instead, instead of giving it out. Everyone can feel free to audition a character and include a plot with them, but it doesn't guarantee they will be chosen.

Besides, Aqua's brother wouldn't be old enough to have a son (waterfrost's character) plus Aqua is not Tyto Alba, which is a requirement of High Tyto.

ADDITIONS TO FIRST POST

After discussions with both Myth and Ruby, we decided that we were ready to appoint a new staff member. We were all very mutual in our decisions and no quarrel was raised - NESSA is to be appointed Graphics Moderator!

Her job is to provide graphics for the site, considering she does have a life outside of the computer and needs time to roleplay, and to handle some of the moderating of the site as it gets more popular. Welcome to the team!


In other news, we have decided that the non-owl free fliers can...

• be eagles, vultures, etc, but if its not been done before, pass it through either myself or ruby! and myth if she's feeling lonesome.
  
• have an opinion of either remnants or guardians, be it refuse to help either side or want to help them
  
• but can not be part of the guardians or remnants as a true member
  
• though can be hired / forced to work for the remnants
  
• can travel anywhere and live anywhere, as long as its reasonable (egyptian vulture in the snow lands? i dont think so either.)
  

We will put up a suggestions list for your character. Feel free to ask other people if you can make a small flock of your characters like for example - crows, whilst eagles would be in pairs alone.

Last edit - the introduction of NESTMAIDS. They are snakes who live in a hollow, cleaning out bugs by eating them and they serve the owl food, etc. They are all very willing to do their job as they hero-worship owls for their bravery or skills in battle.

Each ryb gets their own nestmaid, the co-rybs share one nestmaid as they share a hollow, and each hollow of owls has a nestmaid assigned to them. How this will work is like this - when the hollows are up and running, a thread will be made for each hollow explaining who is in it and their nest maid, who will have a mini bio made by the staff. Anyone in the hollow can play the snake as long as the snake is only in involvement with the assigned owl in a thread.

What I mean is that you can only play the snake if it is in a thread where the linked character is in it.

e.g 'Arctus sat on in his hollow, deep in thought as he held a quill to paper and began to write. His nest made, NAME, slithered into the room with a cup of milkberry tea. "Thanks" he hooted warmly, picking up the cup before continuing with his work."
