Gentle waves caressed the shorelines of the Island of Hoole, climbing up onto the beaches before falling backwards into routine. In the distance beyond red skies, the sun was emerging from a long-night's sleep. The Great Tree that rooted deeply into the island was casting a long shadow over the sea that surrounded it, sunlight filtering through the slowly moving leaves. At the top of the tree, a shape emerged from a hollow, spreading it's wings wide. On closer inspection, it was a Great-grey Owl - specifically, Leonidasryb. He was the ryb of search-and-rescue, and when not teaching he was closely affiliated with the infirmary ward patients. As most owls of his age or wisdom would spend their free time writing down their thoughts in their hollows or in library, Leonidas would offer his services elsewhere.
Rising up, he dived down, keeping his wings folded loosely as he twirled in the air before opening them last-minute before reaching the water's edge. Tilting upwards, he breathed in the fresh air of the morning before steadily heading for the infirmary. He was supposed to be meeting a young owl ready to be out and about, re-branching. He felt a pang of sympathy for the owl - he couldn't imagine it, not being allowed to fly. That was worse than death.
Landing heavily on the edge of the infirmary entrance, wide enough to allow passage of more than one bird at a time, he looked around. It was a fairly quiet morning, with no injuries last night or this morning. Waiting until one of the snakes that work in the infirmary passed by, he asked for who he was meant to be teaching. When she replied, he straightened up, thanking her.
"Tioren!" He hooted deeply, hearing the call echo around the hollow, "Tioren!" He repeated. He wasn't being impatient on purpose, but he was pressed for time. He was supposed to be assessing a group of owls in his chaw later, and certainly couldn't be late.

"Ugh..." Tioren ruffled her feathers at Leonidas's call. Why would anyone want her right now? "...Oh! Right!" She twittered, "I'm coming," and blinked herself fully awake. The masked owl quickly hopped to the entrance of the hollow, slightly balancing with her wings, then folded them again as she came up to him. Looking past him, Tioren saw the morning sun coming up as it started casting its rays, promising a clear day. The sky was open and seemed to be calling her to once again fly. She sighed and looked back at Leonidas. "Hm... Oh! I'm sorry. It's a good view.."
