Most of the rybs were curious about Sindari. Most of them, including her ryb, Leonadis, had inquired as to why she was so nervous when in company of the King. For a while, she pondered why, but she was yet to come to a solid conclusion. Whatever it was, it made Sindari feel sick with worry. Or maybe she was just sick. So, here she was, standing outside King Arctus' hollow, feeling like a fool. It was early; the sun was still up and daylight owls were going about their duties. Sindari sighed inwardly, looking down and preening herself slightly. What did she look like, standing out here...
Taking a deep breath, she raised a foot, as if about to enter, then, she stopped midstep. "Gah, what am I thinking..." she muttered to herself, staring at her feet in disdain. "You're just being a fool. A plain and simple fool. You land like a rock, you walk into the king, you act like you're a lovestruck bloody fledgeling!" Sindari groaned at herself, but, was she lovestruck? With the king? That was a strange thing to say... And an even stranger thing to think. There were plenty other very pretty owls around, and even if Sindari plucked up the courage she had to tell Arctus... he'd probably laugh and say she was just being silly, pat her on the back and tell her to get some sleep. It hurt her, to think that... but it was true, wasn't it? The king couldn't think about a silly little female.. what with the reports of groups of Tytos flying around... Arctus had worse things on his mind that silly nervous little Sindari.
She sighed, and spun around on her heel, hopping away from Arctus' hollow quietly. She was so stupid to even consider what she had done. Sindari felt stupider and stupider each passing day. What was more, her landing was getting more like a stone. Perhaps she was ill. Yes. That was it. That was why she was landing like a stone and walking into others and feeling these... weird feelings for the king. It was silly of her to think it was real. Sindari's mind was obviously confused, of course. It had to be that. What else could it be? Her reaction time was, now, slow at best. Only a few days ago she'd missed a rather large rabbit whilst hunting; overshot and landed with a faceful of dirt whilst the rabbit had turned to her in disdain and hopped away, leaving Sindari in the dirt and disappearing into its' hollow.
Ga', why did you frustrate Sindari so?

"That's it - of course!" A deep hoot came from within the Monarch's hollow. Perched at his desk, furiously writing, was the King - Arctus Glacies. There was a single candle lit on his desk, the warm amber light falling upon the parchment as he wrote. He only needed one as the window in his hollow brought sunlight into the room, the only bad thing about having the window high above your desk. The light did not reach the shadowed part of the hollow, and so he had to find another solution. Beside the King lay an empty cup of tea and a half eaten nootie cake, forgotten in his quest. It was unclear what he was writing, for his words for only legible by the author.
As 'her' owl wrote, Rose, his nestmaid, slithered around the hollow. Swerving around the floor cleaning up, she felt a presence outside. Not wanting to disturb Arctus, she silently slid over to the entrance, not a sound being made as she coiled around the branch expertly. She had been through that entrance so many times - maybe even more than Arctus himself. To think, this is the hollow that all the past kings and queens of the Great Tree lived in... she got over that fact many years ago, but she still likes to entertain it within her mind.
Finally, she'd coiled around until she felt a heartbeat a few mouse-tails away. Raising her head, she flicked out a tongue inquisitivley, not recognising the scent. It was a female, a bit smaller than her King, maybe the same species? With confusion, she leaned closer to the owl before hissing a welcome.
"Hello there dear, I am Rose. Are you here to see the King?"
(feel free to PP her following the snake in )

Sindari was just about to raise her wings and fly away when she heard a familiar hiss. Slowly, the she owl turned to face the snake. Ah, yes. It was Rose, Arctus' nestmaid. Sindari gulped, very audibly, as she asked if she was here to see Arctus. She stuttered nervously over many words, her voice succeeding in sounding only like something had just had a fit and was rolling around on the floor, foaming at the mouth. Sindari stopped herself, and ran a wing over her face.
"Um, well, first I was thinking about it, then... um, I, uh..." Why was this so hard? All it was was Sindari explaining to Rose why she was outside the king's hollow. If Sindari got any more nervous she thought she'd just fall forward in a large of heap of feathers, which didn't bode well, especially if she fainted in front of the king. How embarrassing would that be? "Well, y'see... I was going to see him to tell him why I've been acting kinda funny around him, because... well, Leonadis said I've been acting weird around the king, but, I've never really noticed... but I suppose he is my ryb and I should listen to him but now I'm babbling and I'll just shut up now..." Sindarii trailed off and stared at the floor, feeling more nervous than before. 'Frinking Hagsmire, this is going just wonderfully, now, isn't it?' the Great Horned owl thought sarcastically.

The snake paused for a second, looking off to the distance for a while. It was obvious she was thinking about something. Rose turned to her again and opened her mouth to speak, but she was interrupted by the sound of wings.
A large great-grey swooped around a thick branch, gliding over to where the owl and snake sat. Pulling his wings up slightly, he slowed down until he landed heavily onto the branch. Shaking his feathers, he walked along to meet them with his large talons beating against the wood.
"High ho, Rose! And what's this - Sindari, how strange to see you up here." He hooted merrily to both, lifting his wing and bowing as a greeting to both. Rose flicked her tongue a little and nodded her head, still silent from before. The Great-grey seemed completley oblivious, "I say, is the old man in?" As he hooted, he leaned down to Rose's height politely, and when she hissed a reply he quickly flew around the pair. Just before he stood inside, the Great-grey stopped, turning his head 180 degrees to face Sindari.
"I say, young owl. An old screech once gave me this piece of advice - you can hoot loudly, but actions from the gizzard speak louder. Wait a while, you never know - something good might happen."

The nestmaid looked about to speak when she stopped. The sound of wings was audible, strange for an owl, as most could fly as silent as the night. The flapping was followed by a loud whoomph! noise. Sindari didn't turn. She would have rather just disappeared, or, just flown away in her frustration. Why was she so strange around the king? Okay, sometimes the younger owls thought Sindari was strange anyway, but the guardian didn't see why she was acting like a clumsy little owlet who was just learning to fly. It was embarrassing. Arctus knew her father and probably wondered if she'd been dropped on the head as a chick or something.
Sindari looked up as the owl who entered spoke. 'Oh for Ga's sake!" she thought angrily, resisting the urge to scrape her claws across the fine floor. It was her ryb, of all the frinking owls... It just had to be Leonadis. What bugged her wasn't the fact it was her ryb, it was the fact he seemed oblivious to the fact Sindari was here to see the king and she'd been there for a while, thinking over what to say until deciding it was best she just went to Astoll, until of course, Rose had popped out and asked her if she was there to speak to Arctus. Embarrassing just wasn't the word. If she knew her ryb well he would tell Arctus she was outside. It would do her well if she just flew away and never returned to the tree again, though that would make her look like a turnfeather or some kind of wimp. It was a lose-lose situation, no matter what she did.
"I say, young owl. An old screech once gave me this piece of advice - you can hoot loudly, but actions from the gizzard speak louder. Wait a while, you never know - something good might happen."
Sindari looked up as Leonadis spoke. Her ear tufts perked up in confusion, and she stared after him as he entered the king's hollow. With a sigh, she turned around and hopped to a branch. "What in the name of Ga' is that supposed to mean?" the she-owl grumbled to herself, laying her ear tufts flat. She sighed loudly, and turned to look at Rose for a moment. "Um... Give Arctus my... regards. I think." she mumbled. "If you could, could you tel him the reason I was being all... weird and stuff was because I was sick. I'm going to go see Asto-." again, the female was cut off by the sound of wings. "Oh frinkin- what is today, eh? Let's-all-visit-the-king-at-the-same-time-as-Sindari day?" the owl growled, hopping back into the corridor so the owl could land. Speaking of the devil himself, it was Astoll. He landed clumsily and straightened out. She watched him as he carefully shuffled along the branch, spotting herself and the nestmaid.
"Is the king free, Rose?" the old owl asked, squinting to try and see the snake.

The snake held a troubled look upon her features for a while as she blended into the background of the conversation, as most nestmaids did. That was what they were best at - remaining silent, never intruding. It was only when Astoll asked her a question that she lifted her head attentively, alas, to be interrupted again.
Leonidas bustled his way out of the hollow with a cheerful expression. Whatever had been said between Arctus and Leo must have been good news to the Great-grey's ears as he happily stepped out. Hearing Astoll, speak, he was first to answer ahead of the snake beside him.
"He is now, old chap!" He hooted heartily, opening his wings and flying up to a higher branch, looking down on the owls and snake. Looking at Sindari, he pondered for a moment. She looked... uncomfortable? The older ryb guessed that it was something to do with her and Arctus, and he decided that he should try and help her. The King was not only his higher, but one of his good friends, and so it was his duty to him too.
"Sindari, may I speak to you in my office? It's only around the corner." Leonidas hooted deeply, leaning down from the branch to look at her.

As Leo came out, Astoll gave him a nod and slipped in, and one could hear him speak as he did. "Ah, Your Majesty, I need to talk to you about..." but then the door closed. Was Sindari never going to get to speak to Arctus? Apparently not, as her ryb asked her to speak with him in his office. Her eyes widened involuntarily.
"Oh? Y-yes... Of course, Leonadis..." she mumbled, waddling around the corner to his office, waiting outside for her ryb.
