Set 50 years after the events of the New Era at the Great Tree, and the ruling of Soren the Barn Owl, our story is based on the owls of our world. The Tree is as bustling as ever, the urgency for warriors calmed by the lack of evil in the world, but trouble is stirring in the distance.
The Pure Ones, owls who believed that Tyto was the supreme race of owls, were destroyed and disbanded by the Guardians many seasons ago. Their tyranny ravaged the lands and broke many families apart, but their control has passed - the kingdoms have finally settled into peace.
Stray reports of tyto owls being seen grouping together are far and wide, often coming to the tree days after, but the parliament is unsettled. They have learned not to ignore warnings, and are beginning to think the stories are true as they become more and more often. Owls not of the tyto-family that appear to have been forced out of their homes, or even tell that their relatives have been killed have been coming to the tree in search of refuge. This troubles the great Guardians, and they are beginning to heighten their chaws and sharpen their battle claws.
---
In this world, there are three types of owl:
A Guardian
A owl who lives and works on the Island of Hoole, a member of a chaw. They are noble of heart and sworn to protect the innocent, ready whenever trouble is at hand to strike down those opposing the forces of good. Ranks include rybs, senior-guardians, guardians and trainee-guardians. Hierarchy is important to the welfare of the tree, with a king and queen and a parliament, but all owls are treated with respect. There are many stories of the Guardians, all telling of those owls vanquishing evil, that most owls believe are lore; these doubts are proved wrong when they see a real Guardian, with a elegant helmet and glistening battle claws.
A Remnant
All of these owls belong to the tyto family, be it the highly-regarded Barn owl, or the lower ranked Grass owl. Their main objectives was to destroy the Guardians and "purify" all of the owl kingdoms by killing 'lesser' owls. They are ferocious and unforgiving in battle, seeking weakness from their foe. They wear their battle claws and even helmets constantly, giving off such a aggressive outlook. Being an army, their ranks are military based, but some ranks have changed as records have been lost, so the remnants have modelled their own. The highest is High Tyto, being the equivalent of king, with captains who lead small companies. There are also some strategists and hatchling-hunters.
A Free-flier
These are birds who live outside of the two main groups. They are both owls and other birds, such as hawks, eagles, etc. They sometimes band together and form groups among themselves. Many of these birds choose a role in life, like hireclaws who kill for a price, rogue smiths who create things in their forges, and slipgizzles who spy for either Remnants or Guardians. Freefliers that aren't owls cannot ever join either of the main groups for obvious reasons, but freeflying owls have a possibility.
